In a time when creditors have closed their purse strings and stopped lending, the residents of Detroit know they can always rely on American Jewelry. The Gold family and their employees never know what to expect when peoples personal items are on the line and conflicts escalate.

Les talks Ashley into rejoining the pawn shop on a full-time basis. A man hocks his drum set, which was worth more because he assembled and disassembled it himself. An old woman tries to hock her gold tooth, but learns that the tooth does not have that much gold. Another man refuses to leave the shop after a pawn goes sour.

It's close encounters of the strange kind when Les is presented with an item that's alleged to communicate with aliens. Then, Seth squares off with a customer who flips out when she can't get earrings out of pawn. Plus, an ex- adult film star brings in a box of his biggest hits to the shop. And, Ashley is reduced to tears when she and Seth trade blows over a lost sale.

Les loses it on Ashley when her bad behaviour costs him a big customer. Then, the store goes into red alert when a con artist scams a buyer out of his cash. And later, it's showdown time when Ashley stands her ground against her father and brother.

Seth and Ashley's bitter rivalry reaches a boiling point and turns the store upside down. Meanwhile, a vintage collector's item sparks a heated negotiation. And later, employees revolt when a customer tries to sell a gold tooth, but Les sees dollar signs.

A man tries to redeem his brother's pawn using false identification. Another man tries to sell a skeletal foot of his great grandfather, which was amputated during World War I. A coach of a Little League team tries to sell their team's radar gun, but his attitude about the importance of winning angers Rich.
