Filmmaker Wong Jing produced Mercenaries From Hong Kong, his very first modernday adventure drama. In the dramatic plot he wrote, he sends superstars Ti Lung, Chen Huimin, Wang Lungwei, Lo Lieh and Wang Yu on a deadly mission. The films action sequences are all closely guided by three great kung fu choreographers, led by Tang Chia!

Wang Zhao Jun refuses to bribe the imperial painter, so he draws an ugly portrait of her, preventing her from being selected by the Emperor until they meet in person. The painter ends up in exile and plots for Wang to marry the Huns warlord as a revenge. The Emperor rejects this, provoking a war which is only averted when Wang sacrifices herself.
