Durairasu is heartbroken when the girl he loves marries another man. However, when the girl and her husband die in an accident, Durairasu dedicates his life to bring up their daughter.

An old widow returns to her village with her two sons. The elder son is an illiterate peasant, the younger an educated, urbane youth, who falls in love with an iron-fisted local landlord's daughter.
