Leonard, Raj und Howard sind genervt von Sheldon und Amy, weil diese Pärchenkonstellation einfach anstrengend ist. Penny ist genervt von Leonard, Raj und Howard, weil die drei Kumpel nun ständig in ihrer Wohnung Zuflucht suchen. Nachdem Howard Bernadette im Restaurant sieht und sich sofort unter dem Tisch versteckt, wundern die anderen sich wieder einmal, warum es zwischen ihrem Freund und der blonden Studentin nicht geklappt hat. Schweren Herzens vertraut sich Howard Penny an.
Charlies Bruder Alan hat eine Affäre mit Naomi, Tochter von Haushälterin Berta. Als die ihren zukünftigen Schwiegersohn an die mütterliche Brust drückt, bekommt er kalte Füße.
Das lautstarke Liebesleben seiner Mutter Judith bringt Sprössling Jake (Angus T. Jones) um den Schlaf. Als sein Onkel Charlie (Charlie Sheen) davon erfährt, werden bei dem plötzlich unterdrückte traumatische Kindheitserlebnisse wach.
Um seinen lästigen Bruder Alan loszuwerden, will Charlie ihn mit einer attraktiven Nachbarin verkuppeln. Charlie (Charlie Sheen) hat ein Auge auf die neue Nachbarin Denise (Brooke Shields) geworfen. Um seinen nervigen Bruder Alan (John Cryer) loszuwerden, ist er mittlerweile aber zu jedem Opfer bereit und überlässt Alan den Vortritt. Doch am Ende quält den notorischen Schürzenjäger die Eifersucht.
Caroline (Beth Behrs) hofft auf Annäherungsversuche von Andy (Ryan Hansen). Der macht aber keine Anstalten – bis er von ihrer reichen Familie erfährt. Als zwei Amish-Jungs im Diner auftauchen, wissen Max und Caroline sofort, wofür sie die naiven, schmucken Kerle gebrauchen können.
Als sie im Martha-Stewart-Magazin erwähnt werden, können sich die Kellnerinnen Max (Kat Dennings) und Caroline (Beth Behrs) vor Cupcake-Bestellungen kaum retten. Also „Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen“? Nicht ganz, denn ihnen fehlt noch Kapital, um die Produktion richtig anzukurbeln. Max schlägt eine Eizellenspende vor.
Wenn ein Morty untergeht, greift ein Rick ein. Und dem Universum kann ja nichts Schlimmes passieren, oder?

Thanksgiving sorgt bei den Hecks für Ärger. Axl will unbedingt Freundin April (Greer Grammer) auf dem Familienfoto haben. Seine Mutter will das stoppen… Grammer ist die Tochter von Sitcom-Legende Kelsey Grammer („Frasier“).
Frankie entdeckt freudig einen neuen Laden, wo sie Obst und Gemüse in den verschiedensten Formen kaufen kann. Zugleich ist sie am Boden zerstört, weil sich Axl nicht mehr bei ihr meldet.
Frankie (Patricia Heaton) lässt sich von ihrer prolligen Nachbarin Rita (seit der ersten Staffel immer wieder dabei: Brooke Shields) zu einem vermeintlich kurzen Roadtrip überreden. Am Ende werden es 863 Kilometer, und Frankie ist sich nicht sicher, ob es sich womöglich um eine Entführung handeln könnte.

Frankie freut sich wahnsinnig, als Sue sie zum Mittagessen auf dem College einlädt. Doch das gemeinsame Mahl verläuft nicht allzu gut, da Sue ihren neuen Freund Jeremy im Schlepptau hat, der Frankie für den schlechten Zustand der Welt verantwortlich mache.
Frankie ist begeistert, dass Mike und seine Arbeitskollegen der Familie eine neue Veranda gebaut haben. Doch es ist schwer, dort Ruhe und Entspannung zu finden, nachdem ausgerechnet jetzt nebenan neue Nachbarn eingezogen sind, die drei laute Kinder haben.
Maxwell ist völlig aus dem Häuschen, denn er hat für sein neuestes Stück am Broadway einen Tony-Award gewonnen. Die Freude findet aber ein jähes Ende, als in einer Boulevard-Zeitung behauptet wird, Maxwell hätte seit Jahren eine Affäre mit Nanny Fine, und das auch schon während seiner Ehe mit seiner inzwischen verstorbenen Ehefrau. Als Maggie davon hört, weiß sie nicht mehr, wem sie glauben soll.
Maxwell gelingt es, die erfolgreiche Schauspielerin Morgan Faulkner für sein nächstes Stück zu gewinnen. Als Fran davon erfährt, hält sich ihre Freude in Grenzen, denn zufällig kennt sie Morgan noch aus ihrer Schulzeit, da die beiden in die gleiche Klasse gingen. Maggie macht sich indes Sorgen, an keinem der Colleges angenommen zu werden, bei denen sie sich bislang beworben hat.
Fran will unbedingt die Rocksängerin Tasha kennenlernen, doch wie sich herausstellt, ist das gar nicht so leicht. Kurzerhand verkleiden sie und Val sich als Zimmermädchen, um Zugang zu Tashas Hotelzimmer zu erhalten. Obwohl das erste Gespräch mit dem Star fast an der harschen Managerin scheitert, lässt sich das vorlaute Kindermädchen nicht so leicht ins Bockshorn jagen.
Fran erfährt, dass Bette Midler eine Wohltätigkeitsauktion leitet, die von Maxwell organisiert wird. Um Geld für einen guten Zweck zu sammeln, bietet Fran sich selbst an und wird am Ende als Kindermädchen für den Sohn des reichen Philanthropen Tom Rosenstein ersteigert. Doch ein Nachmittag mit dem Kindermädchen verstört den Jungen derart, dass nicht nur Maxwells berufliche Zukunft in Gefahr gerät.
Fran hat keine Lust, Maxwell und die Kinder nach Hawaii zu begleiten und dabei nur als die Nanny zu gelten. Als Val und sie das Angebot bekommen, nach Kalifornien zu fliegen, wo Heather Biblow eine Rolle in einer Fernsehserie bekommen hat, machen sich die beiden sofort auf den Weg. Vor Ort überzeugt Fran am TV-Set den Rest der Crew von ihren schauspielerischen Qualitäten und erhält Heathers Rolle.
Eigentlich war das immer Frans großer Traum, doch als sie erfährt, dass ihre Mutter nun eine Eigentumswohnung in Florida kaufen und wegziehen will, ist sie entsetzt. Nach einem längeren Gespräch mit ihrem Therapeuten versucht sie, die Trennung von ihrer Mutter auch als Chance zu betrachten. Maxwell wurde indes gebeten, als Juror bei der nächsten Wahl zur Miss Universe zu fungieren.
Maxwell staunt nicht schlecht, als während seiner Geschäftsreise in London plötzlich Nanny Fine in seinem Hotelzimmer steht. Auch wenn er sie im ersten Moment am liebsten wegschicken würde, willigt er schließlich ein, sich mit ihr die Stadt anzusehen. Gerade als die beiden fast miteinander im Bett landen, klingelt plötzlich das Telefon: Niles hatte einen Herzinfarkt.
Fran und Maxwell sind sich im Krankenhaus nähergekommen, wissen danach aber beide nicht, wie es weitergehen soll. Während Fran von einer gemeinsamen Zukunft träumt, will Maxwell sich erst einmal Zeit erkaufen und beauftragt Fran mit der Renovierung der Küche, damit sie beschäftigt ist. Auf Silvias Ratschlag hin bittet Fran ihre Cousine Sheila, eine Innendekorateurin, um Hilfe bei dem Projekt.
Droht, verdammt peinlich zu werden für die Nanny: „Mein Date mit Elton John. Fran begleitet Maxwell zur Filmpremiere von „Tantrum & Tiaras“, einer Doku über Popsänger Elton John. Den hatte Fran einst getroffen, doch der Star hegt keine guten Erinnerungen an sie… Neben Elton John ist auch sein Lebensgefährte David Furnish zu sehen.
Brighton hat bei einem Wettbewerb gewonnen und nun soll eine Band einen Teil ihres neuen Musikvideos im Haus der Sheffields drehen. Während Maxwell wenig begeistert ist, freut sich Fran riesig. Die Überraschung ist groß, als plötzlich die Plattenchefin auftaucht und Maxwell um den Hals fällt. Die beiden kennen sich von früher und schnell fürchtet Fran, dass diese Frau ihr den Mann ausspannen will.

Für Rose eine glückliche Zeit, doch nun sei Charlie ausgebrochen. Und tatsächlich erhalten Alan und Walden nun Botschaften, die von Charlie zu stammen scheinen.
